ARTIST'S C.V. PATRICIA GREENWELL BA
Patricia is a painter, creating works in a variety of media, including watercolour, pastel, acrylic and mixed media.
Artist's statement
Since the age of 8, my whole life has been driven by the urge to paint. I qualified with a BA degree in Fine Art from Durham University, and taught in secondary schools for a few years. I then decided to become self-employed, exhibiting my work wherever I was living around England, from Essex to Northumberland, Cornwall and currently Wiltshire.
My work is a celebration of the architecture and countryside of countries which I have visited and locations in the U. K., recording people, places , flora and fauna, and subjects which are characteristic of the locations. My driving force does not allow me to specialise in a particular type of subject or technique. I must continue to experiment with materials, techniques and formats from representational to abstract. Even in the representational work the emphasis is on colour and texture, but the abstract work is entirely devoted to their interaction.
About the exhibition
The title of the exhibition (Earth, Air, and Water Landscapes), refers to the oldest concept regarding the elements of our world. The artist supplies the missing element, fire, with her intuition and imagination.
Jung's idea of the "Quaternity of the self" consists of thinking, feeling, sensing and intuition. I believe that the whole of the self is involved in the creation of a work of art. During the process of creating a painting all the basic elements come into play. I think about the earth; sense the air; feel and use the water, and am inspired by intuition.
